VIRGINIA GRAHAM BAKER POOL LAW REQUIRES ACTION AT ALL APARTMENT AND CONDOMINIUM POOLS AND SPAS
Pool safety legislation recently passed at the federal level places additional
requirements on all “public swimming pools”, which are defined to include pools and spas at apartments and condominiums.
At the end of 2007, Congress passed and the President signed a law requiring all public pools and spas to be equipped with anti-entrapment devices by December 19,2008. Under the federal law, pools equipped with a single-main drain, other than an unblockable drain, must be equipped with at least one of a number of anti-entrapment devices or systems, such as dual main drains, a safety vacuum release system, automatic pump shut-off system, or other type of drain
disablement.
